Our fourth Sprint began May 9th and will conclude on May 22nd. We're well into the second week of this sprint and while we've fallen behind in terms of time management, we are working on implementing updated art assets into the engine. The second half of this sprint will be prioritizing...
Set dressing the hospital and forest environments with updated art assets and populating the health clinic so it looks more complete than it did last quarter.
Relighting the environments to reflect the atmosphere we want to convey throughout the game. Not only do we want the lighting to be better in general, but we want the player to gather information from it as well. Lights will be used to illuminate important objects or give hints to the player regarding navigation.
Posing the character models to reflect the narrative we want to convey with the new statues. Last quarter, the statues didn't have much to do with Rapunzel, however, we want to convey that story with Dara and her daughter using updated statue models containing these characters.
Getting the character models created last sprint and earlier this sprint rigged by our outsourced animators. Last quarter the characters were all based on the same rig and base mesh, which really limited the creative freedom of the character artists.
Updating the music used during the cinematic to reflect the mood we want to convey throughout the current opening and ending of the game.
Creating individualized SFX for the hospital, forest, and tower areas in the game so we are able to replace them with the placeholder sounds we currently have implemented in engine.
Animating the two most prominent characters in the game, Dara and the mysterious shadow chasing her. Dara is currently in need of her opening and ending cinematic animations as well as a walk/run cycle for the shadow.
Once we have the environments filled with new assets and updated lighting, we will be updating the gallery with new screenshots of all of the updates! As we near the end of the quarter and our time here at SCAD, we are both excited and humbled by all the positive reception and critique!
Keep checking back for more updates!

We plan to keep you all informed with screenshots and pictures of all our behind the scenes work! Expect more blog posts containing concept art, character turnarounds, models, blueprints, etc.
